Understanding the air around us

Outdoor air pollution is a continual concern as it poses serious risk to human health. With many different emissions from both human and natural activities, the ability to control air pollution relies on understanding how different emissions interact. This is where Jenny’s work is key as she focuses on understanding the chemistry of these different emissions.

Over the next few years, Jenny plans to develop an Australian atmospheric chemistry model, similar to those already successfully used in North America and Europe. The information provided from the model will assist in predicting pollution amounts and their responses to future change. The model Jenny works on will help advance scientific understanding of the atmosphere on a global scale – whilst also providing new insights into what affects our local air quality.
